SHERIFF’S PATROLS TO INCREASE OVER JULY 4TH HOLIDAY
(Delaware County, OH) July 2, 2009- More Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies will be on patrol during the July 4th holiday weekend in order to help keep your family safe. Increased patrols start tonight, July 2nd and will continue through July 5th.
During this High Visibility Enforcement blitz, sheriff’s deputies are more visible in order to promote safe driving. Deputies will crack down on impaired drivers and those who violate the speed limits. They are also looking for aggressive drivers and those not wearing seatbelts.
During the July 4th holiday weekend in 2008, nine people lost their lives in traffic accidents in the State of Ohio. More than half of those deaths occurred in crashes involving alcohol.
Sheriff Walter L. Davis III said: “We want everyone to have fun this weekend but we’re asking them to be especially careful. Recognize that more motorists are on the roads during holiday weekends and use your best safe driving practices.”
In order to increase patrols, sheriff’s deputies will give up part of their holiday weekends to work overtime. The high visibility enforcement overtime is paid for by a grant obtained by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
Safe Holiday Driving Tips
Avoid DUI by planning ahead. If you drink, know how you will get safely home.
Buckle up and make sure any children in your vehicle are properly restrained.
Be patient. Do not speed or tailgate other vehicles.
If you travel out of town, avoid fatigue by taking breaks.
Be aware that you may encounter fireworks, parades and other distractions along your route.
